Choosing the Right Sauna Heater for Mobile Builds
We reviewed different sauna heater options and discovered trade-offs between heat performance and practical mobile design constraints. We needed to balance clean burning, heat retention, and usable space. At the end of the review process we found that heater choice significantly impacts mobile sauna performance and usability.
Sauna Heater Notes
Kuuma has a straight bullet proof sauna heater. Clean burning. Stores heat really long. But we need a 3ft wide area minimum to heat this. Not super ideal for mobile.
IKI heaters create a more even heat across the rock mass instead of a single central hot spot. This results in more flexible interior layouts for mobile saunas.
Design Considerations
Circular window. Mobile sauna design introduces additional constraints beyond the heater itself. For example, circular windows require extra attention. The window jamb must be designed to properly support the window and prevent movement or failure during transport.
Field Testing
We tested multiple sauna designs over time. Early on, we started with a barrel sauna used for rentals. That sauna broke down quickly under real use and transport, reinforcing that mobile saunas need to be built differently from standard or backyard designs.
