Our Custom Sauna Process

Simple, effortless from start to finish.

Step 01 · Conversation

You reach a person, not a form.

  • First calls are led by Fitz. When you call the shop, you get one of two people: Fitz, or Jayson, our founder.
  • We start with the questions that shape everything else: capacity, personal or commercial use, stove type, and mobile or stationary.
  • We talk through your options at a high level and land on a direction that fits.

Step 02 · Design

Every line refined until it earns its place.

  • It starts with a floor plan. Once the plan works, we move into materials and features.
  • Features are the specifics: ADA access, a porthole window. Materials are the finishes, from a yakisugi or thermal pine exterior to clear-grade cedar inside.
  • Standard models can be configured on the site. Custom builds get a design call and in-house 3D renderings, drawn by Jayson.

Step 03 · Build

Hand-crafted in Duluth. Built to hold up.

  • Every sauna is hand-crafted in our Duluth shop.
  • You get photo updates every single day. Even on days we are waiting on materials, you still hear from us.
  • The difference is in what you cannot see: a multi-layer wall system, sealed so moisture never reaches the cavity, over a steel trailer frame.

Step 04 · Delivery

Set in place. Ready the moment we leave.

  • We deliver and set the sauna in place. It is ready to use the moment we pull away.
  • Support does not end at delivery. When you call, you reach Fitz or Jayson directly, not a call center.
  • If something ever needs attention, we stand behind the build.

Sauna was made to be more. A place where we go to reclaim our center and thrive.

"Mobile Sauna"
as a verb.

We like to think of mobile sauna as something you do. That spirit of adventure brings it to the most extreme of places bringing contrast elseware unfelt.

What is a trailer sauna, exactly?

A trailer sauna is what it sounds like and also a little more than what it sounds like. At the simplest level, it is a fully functional sauna mounted on a trailer chassis so the whole thing can be towed and used wherever you set it up. The version most people picture, and the version most search results show, is a small wooden cabin built on top of a stock utility trailer. That works, and plenty of companies sell it, but it is really two products married together at the last step.

A purpose-built trailer sauna is a different thing. It is engineered as a single piece, with the trailer chassis designed around the sauna it will carry. Weight distribution, ground clearance, insulation, door height, structural load. All of it gets settled at the design stage instead of worked around later. That is what we build at BW, and it is the difference you feel the first time you use one.

What makes a BW trailer sauna different from the cheaper ones I see online?

We will be honest about this because we think you deserve a straight answer. The trailer sauna market has grown fast over the last decade, and most of what you find online is a sauna kit sitting on a trailer that someone bought off a lot. Those are the cheaper ones. They look fine in photos. They do not always feel right when you actually use them.

A BW trailer sauna is engineered as one unit. The trailer is designed around the sauna from the first sketch. The insulation accounts for the steel underneath. The doors and benches sit at correct heights. The tow geometry is dialed in for actual loaded weight, not estimated. The biggest single difference, and the one people feel right away, is our roll-down system. When you reach your spot, the cabin lowers and settles flat on the ground. The tires take a break. The frame sits level the way a foundation sauna sits, instead of bouncing on suspension every time someone shifts on the bench.

You pay more for that. We are not going to pretend otherwise. What you get for it is something that should still feel right twenty years from now.

Do I need a special vehicle to tow a trailer sauna?

For most of our builds, no. A standard half-ton truck or a properly equipped midsize SUV with a real towing package can handle a BW trailer sauna without trouble. We design our trailers to stay in the towable range the average homeowner already has access to, and we give you exact tongue weight and gross weight numbers before you commit so you can match it to your vehicle with confidence.

If you are buying for commercial use and plan to move the sauna frequently, we will also walk you through hitch types, brake controllers, and vehicle pairings before you finalize anything. That is a conversation we would rather have upfront than at the trailhead.

How does a trailer sauna stay level on uneven ground?

This is the question people usually do not think to ask until they have already used a mobile sauna once. Setting up on uneven ground is the single most common frustration with entry-level trailer saunas. The tongue, axle, and tires hold the floor slightly off level no matter how careful you are with blocks under the wheels. Benches end up pitched. Water pools in one corner. The door starts to hang a little funny.

Our roll-down system fixes that. When you arrive at your site, the sauna cabin lowers off the trailer wheels and settles directly on the ground. The frame sits flat. The tires stop carrying the load. From the inside it feels like a permanent foundation sauna because at that point it functionally is one. When you are ready to leave, it rolls back up onto the wheels and tows like any other trailer.

The whole process takes a few minutes either direction. Once you have used a sauna that sits flat, you really do not go back.

Can a trailer sauna be used year-round, even in cold winters?

Yes, and honestly winter is when a sauna earns its keep. We build in Duluth. Our team uses saunas in real Northern Minnesota winters, which means our insulation specs, stove pairings, ventilation, and material choices come out of conditions that are not theoretical. The sauna will heat reliably at twenty below if it needs to.

The only practical caveat is the trailer side of things. Tires and hubs do not love sitting in deep snow for weeks at a time, so most of our owners pick a winter spot, drop the sauna onto the ground using the roll-down system, and leave it there until thaw. That gives them a stable winter sauna that can also disappear in the spring if they want it to.

Do I need permits or hookups to use a trailer sauna?

In most places, no, and that is one of the real advantages of a trailer sauna over a foundation build. Because it is technically a trailer, it usually does not require building permits, foundation inspections, or zoning sign-off the way a permanent structure does. Rules vary by city and county, and we always recommend a quick call to your local building department to confirm, but the answer for most homeowners is that you can have a sauna on your property by next month instead of next year.

You also do not need plumbing or fixed electrical to run the sauna itself. A wood-fired stove needs no hookups at all. An electric heater can run off a standard 240 volt outlet, the same kind your dryer uses, with the right setup. We will walk you through your options based on where you plan to set up.

How long does it take to set up a trailer sauna at a new location?

From pulling into your spot to lighting the stove, you are looking at fifteen to twenty minutes. Most of that is the roll-down process, a quick level check, and basic stove prep. There is no construction step, no foundation cure time, and no hookups to wait on if you are running wood-fired.

For commercial use, where the sauna is moving between sites every week, our owners typically get setup down to under ten minutes once they have the routine. That matters when you are running events or rentals and need the sauna ready to go on a tight schedule.

Is a trailer sauna a good fit for rental, commercial, or event use?

It can be one of the better small-business plays we have seen, if you go in with your eyes open. The economics work because one trailer sauna can serve dozens of clients across a season without any of them needing their own. Wellness retreats, event rentals, mobile spa businesses, brand activations, photo and film production, corporate offsites. All real use cases we have built for.

The reason a purpose-built sauna matters more in commercial work is that your sauna is going to be seen by every client. If it tilts on uneven ground, if the door does not seat right, if the trailer side of things looks improvised, your customers notice. The roll-down system is a big part of why our commercial owners get repeat bookings. The sauna shows up, drops to ground level, and reads as a finished product instead of a project.

If you are working through the numbers for a commercial purchase, get in touch and we will share what we have learned from operators already running BW saunas in the field.
